About Me

My name is Onome Akinbode-James. I’m from Nigeria and moved to America to pursue a dream of playing basketball on the biggest stage in 2016. I have since played collegiate basketball at Duke University, and completed a double major in Electrical Engineering and Computer Science. It wasn’t always a rosy journey- so this blog to help other African athletes have a smoother transition by offering tips I wish someone would have told me while I was in the thick of it, as well as things I have learned from my experiences at a highly challenging academic and athletic institution. While most of the initial posts here would be my own, I’m hoping to include perspectives of as many others that are willing. This way, we can collate an expansive resource for all the athletes currently on their journeys or just starting out.
